Preventive work in school classes has been extremely well received in schools both among teachers and pupils. We have received positive feedback from parents concerning the class discussions and the way we report them. At these meetings, we also decide on the follow-up actions based on the reports. EOPH supports and offers consultations to the client parties also between the meeting dates. During the project, the client parties can communicate with our other specialists as well, including the virtual substance information bus and the national substance advisory service, which can be reached by telephone or Internet. Projects usually include at least one parents' meeting, as well.
We make a plan of the questionnaires in co-operation with the client party, covering a variety of topics relevant to teenagers. Before the class-room meetings, we can assess the attitudes and experiences of the children and teenagers with special questionnaires they complete by mobile or on the Internet. After the class-room meetings, the same process takes place again for assessing the effects of the preventive work session.
At the target group meetings, we use the Hubu method with a computer, a wide screen television projector and a voting system. We project questions and optional answers on a screen, and ask the pupils to vote for the answer they prefer using their personal remote control. The voting results for each question appear of the screen. Our specialist comments on the responses and asks follow-up questions from the pupils. Our computer program saves all the voting results and can produce specific client reports, for example age comparisons.
